FAA Orders Inspections for Boeing 737 MAX Over Safety Concerns

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed mandatory inspections for certain Boeing 737 MAX aircraft due to improperly installed elevator-control bearings.

Around 95 US-registered planes would be affected, although this figure does not represent the total number of potentially impacted aircraft worldwide.

The issue involves bearings in the elevator buss assembly, a critical part of the mechanical flight-control system connecting pilots' control columns with elevators used for pitch control.

If left unaddressed, the condition could lead to cracks in bearings and their housings, followed by premature failure of the elevator buss assembly crank arms.
