FAA Orders Inspections for Boeing's 787 Dreamliners Over Structural Concerns
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued an airworthiness directive requiring inspections of certain Boeing Co. 787 Dreamliner jets.
The move comes after a company investigation into manufacturing errors found gaps that exceeded engineering specifications in the lower side of body splice plates common to the lower outboard wing skins.
The FAA said high pull up forces on these components may cause fatigue cracks to form at the fastener holes, which could compromise the safety of the aircraft.
