FAA Orders Inspections for Hundreds of Boeing 737 Max Jets

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered inspections of hundreds of Boeing 737 Max jets due to cracks found in the body of the plane. The directive applies to an estimated 471 US-registered Boeing 737 Max 8s, Max 9s, and Max 8-200 airplanes.

The cracks were discovered on some planes in a structural reinforcement around the forward service door on the right side of the airplane. Airlines must inspect this area based on each plane's usage and repair any cracking before returning it to service.

This is not the first time Boeing has had to deal with structural cracking on 737s. In 2019, inspections were ordered for some Boeing 737-700, 737-800, and 737-900 after cracks were found in a component connecting the plane's fuselage to its wings.
