The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed an Airworthiness Directive (AD) to address concerns about the safety of passenger seat assemblies on Boeing 737-MAX aircraft.

The directive, which would affect 453 planes in the US register, follows reports that some seat assemblies were not correctly installed in cabin seat tracks.

According to the FAA, an improperly installed seat assembly could disengage from the floor track system during periods of increased loading, turbulence or an emergency landing, posing a risk to passengers and crew.

The regulator has reviewed Boeing's Special Attention Requirements Bulletin 737-25-1927 RB, which outlines inspection procedures and corrective actions for affected seat installations.
