FAA to Review Boeing 737 MAX Software Issue Amid Certification Delay
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is set to convene a safety review on Friday of a software issue affecting Boeing's 737 MAX airplanes. The issue could prevent pilots from accessing automated flight guidance during one landing scenario, but airline officials do not believe it poses a significant safety concern.
According to the FAA, the problem occurs when pilots perform a go-around maneuver, where they abort a landing attempt and climb back into the sky. The agency said this can increase pilot workload in such situations.
The Corrective Action Review Board will meet on Friday to review the issue, but officials do not expect it to find any safety concerns. If cleared, the MAX 10 could be certified later this month, with Boeing having already proposed a software update and additional training for pilots.
