FAA to Review Boeing 737 MAX Software Issue on Friday
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is set to convene a safety review on Friday of a software issue affecting Boeing's 737 MAX airplanes. The issue could prevent pilots from accessing automated flight guidance during one landing scenario, but airline officials do not believe it poses a safety concern.
According to the FAA, the software version can increase pilot workload when doing a go-around, where a pilot aborts a landing attempt and climbs back into the sky. Boeing has said it is developing a software update to address the problem, which could also include additional training for pilots.
The FAA's Corrective Action Review Board will review the issue on Friday, but officials do not expect the board to find a safety issue. If cleared, the MAX 10 could be certified later this month.
