FAA to Review Software Issue in Boeing 737 Max Planes
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is set to convene a safety review on Friday of a software issue affecting Boeing's 737 MAX airplanes. The issue could prevent pilots from accessing automated flight guidance during one landing scenario.
Airline officials have expressed confidence that the review will not find any safety concerns, with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy comparing the situation to an update on a smartphone. 'The software update hasn't been flagged for us as a safety issue,' he said.
Boeing has already informed operators and is developing a software update to address the problem. The FAA is also considering additional training for pilots, but it's unclear if this will be implemented.
The review comes as the FAA delays certification of the 737 MAX 10 until further analysis is complete. If the review clears the plane, officials say it could be certified later this month.
