Fantastical lands on Googlebook ahead of Android mobile launch
Fantastical, a popular calendar app known for its intuitive design, is finally making its way to Android, but not on mobile devices just yet. The app is launching first on Googlebook, Google’s new laptop platform. Existing users can access Fantastical on Googlebook at no extra cost, while new users can also use it across other supported devices.
Flexibits, the app’s developer, has clarified that while the underlying OS is Android, the full mobile version (for phones, tablets, and foldables) won’t be available until 2027. This contradicts earlier statements from CEO Michael Simmons, who claimed in 2024 that Fantastical would never appear on the Play Store. Additionally, there’s no update on bringing Cardhop, Flexibits’ contact management app, to Android.
Fantastical originally launched on Mac in 2011 and expanded to Windows in late 2024. The decision to develop an Android version came after Google demonstrated Googlebook to Flexibits, impressing Simmons enough to pursue the project. Pricing for Fantastical starts at $57 per year for individuals and $90 annually for family plans, with a free, limited-tier option also available.
