FDA Approves Merck-Eisai Combo Therapy for Advanced Kidney Cancer

Merck and Eisai have received FDA approval for their combination therapy of Welireg (cinacalcet) and Lenvima (lenvatinib) in patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma who are not suitable for immunotherapy.

The combination therapy is intended to treat adult patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma, a type of kidney cancer that has spread beyond the kidneys.

Welireg is a calcimimetic agent that works by binding to calcium receptors and reducing parathyroid hormone levels, while Lenvima is a kinase inhibitor that targets angiogenesis pathways involved in tumor growth.
