This week's Federal Reserve rate decision was influenced by a pipeline shutdown in Saudi Arabia, which led to a surge in Brent crude prices. The resulting inflation expectations pushed bond yields higher, with the 10-year Treasury yield spiking as high as 5.04%, its highest since 2007.

The Fed ultimately raised the benchmark rate by a quarter point, from 3.5% to 4%, in a unanimous decision led by Chairman Kevin Warsh. Markets reacted negatively, with the Dow closing down 631 points or 1.2% at 51,461.90.

Meanwhile, the AI industry was also making headlines as Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an essay arguing that the industry should slow down due to safety concerns. The essay had a short-term negative impact on stocks such as Marvell Technology and CoreWeave, but some companies like CrowdStrike benefited from the increased attention.

Other notable news included Generac's $2.4 billion generator order with Amazon, which came with warrants that could be worth up to $340 million. The deal has the potential to transform Generac's business and stock price.
