FedEx Unveils Retro-Designed Aircraft Amid Memphis Airport Renaming
FedEx recently unveiled its latest Boeing 777F aircraft, painted in a retro design inspired by the company's early days. The aircraft, registration N884FD, was one of the first to join the FedEx fleet in 2011 and now sports a nostalgic color scheme reminiscent of the Dassault Falcon 20 jets that launched FedEx operations in 1973.
The Boeing 777F is being celebrated alongside the renaming of Memphis International Airport to Frederick W. Smith International Airport, honoring the company's founder who passed away in 2025. The airport was chosen as the base for Federal Express in 1973 due to its central location and reliable weather conditions.
According to FedEx Corporation president and CEO Raj Subramaniam, all aircraft moving through the newly designated facility will embody the founder's vision of global connectivity and community connection.
