Fervo Energy Secures Record-Breaking Geothermal PPA with Google
Fervo Energy has made significant strides in its partnership with Google by signing a massive power purchase agreement (PPA) for a Utah data center. The 396-MW PPA marks the largest enhanced geothermal PPA to date, exceeding Fervo's previous record of 320 MW signed with Southern California Edison in 2024.
The agreement commits Fervo to supplying power from its Cape Station Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) project in Utah by June 2030. The project is expected to come online in 2028, with an option for Google to expand its offtake by approximately 600 MW, totaling nearly 1 GW.
This deal builds on Fervo's commercial pilot project, Project Red, which came online in Nevada in 2023 and supplies power to the local grid. Google has been involved in several geothermal projects with Fervo, including purchasing 115 MW of power from NV Energy under the Clean Transition Tariff model.
