Fervo Energy Stock Jumps on Record-Breaking Deal with Alphabet
Fervo Energy's initial public offering in May was highly successful, but the stock price plummeted after reaching $40. The company's enhanced geothermal systems could provide a solution to the growing need for energy, as evidenced by its recent deal with Alphabet.
The agreement, announced on September 1, involves 396 megawatts of carbon-free electricity for Google's data center in Utah, the largest such deal on record. Shares of Fervo Energy jumped 25% to nearly $20 after the announcement, and analyst sentiment remains high despite the stock price being below its IPO price.
Fervo plans to develop 1.1 gigawatts of power by 2030 and has a backlog of over $7 billion. Eleven of 12 analysts surveyed have 'Buy' ratings on Fervo stock, with a consensus price target of nearly $43, indicating potential upside of 118%.
While the company's revenue is still low at just $113,000 in the second quarter, deals like the one with Alphabet bode well for its future. The technology behind enhanced geothermal systems allows for energy generation in areas where natural hotspots are scarce.
