Few Enterprises Succeed at Integrating AI Across Operations
According to research from Futurum, only 13% of enterprises have successfully converted their AI investments into operational impact. This means that most organizations are still struggling with 'random acts of AI', where individual initiatives work well within a single function but fail to deliver meaningful outcomes across the business.
The study found that while 53% of enterprises rate themselves as being ahead of their competitors in terms of AI capability, only 16% have achieved enterprise scale. This suggests that many organizations are still struggling to integrate AI effectively into their operations.
At IBM, the company has successfully applied AI, automation, and workflow redesign across its global operations, resulting in $4.5 billion in annualized productivity savings, a 40% reduction in HR operating costs, and a 74% cut in IT support volumes. The key to success was treating the enterprise as a system, with clear ownership over how all the pieces connect.
