Finance Veteran Salvatore J Vasto Passes Away at 82

Salvatore J. Vasto, a renowned figure in finance and corporate leadership, passed away on August 22, 2026, at the age of 82. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Sal's legacy is marked by his dedication to his family and his extensive career in accounting and finance.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, Sal graduated from Queen of Peace High School before earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Saint Peter's College. He furthered his education with an MBA in Finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University and obtained his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.

Vasto's impressive career spanned over four decades, during which he held various positions at Ernst & Young, GAF Corporation, Continental Grain, American Express, and Fortis Inc. He eventually served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Fortis Inc., a position he held until his retirement.

Sal's greatest joy was his family, particularly his wife Elizabeth 'Betty', whom he shared 58 wonderful years with. Together, they built a life centered on love, commitment, and family. He was an incredible father to their two children, Mark and Erica, providing endless support, advice, and security throughout their lives.

Vasto's love for his grandchildren knew no bounds. He took immense pride in watching them grow and succeed, often attending their sporting events, concerts, and milestones.
