FIP Calls for Detailed Probe into B787 Electrical Systems after Air India Crash
The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has written to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) urging them to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of electrical system evidence related to Boeing 787 planes during their investigation into the Air India crash that killed 260 people in June last year.
The pilots' body, in its letter dated September 18, also suggested that a detailed examination of all electrical and electronically controlled systems should form an important component of the ongoing investigation, given concerns previously raised regarding electrical system reliability and the central role played by electrical architecture in the B787 design philosophy.
Air India's Boeing 787-8, registration VT-ANB, crashed soon after takeoff on June 12, 2025, killing 241 people onboard and 19 on the ground. The FIP has asked AAIB to consider technical data submitted by the Foundation for Aviation Safety (FAS) and issue appropriate safety recommendations in the AI171 accident investigation.
