FIP Calls for Detailed Review of Boeing 787 Electrical Systems After Air India Crash
The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has called for a detailed review of electrical systems on Boeing 787 aircraft in connection with the Air India AI171 crash that killed 260 people. The request follows concerns raised by the US-based Foundation of Aviation Safety (FAS), which has questioned why interim safety recommendations have not been issued for the Boeing 787 fleet.
In a letter dated September 18, the FIP urged the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to examine technical evidence relating to the aircraft's electrical architecture. The review should cover electrical generation and power distribution, avionics integration, data networks, software functions, and overall system reliability.
The investigation into the crash on June 12, 2025, is ongoing. The AAIB has said that the team had examined technical, operational, organisational, and human factors. However, FAS claims to possess evidence pointing to recurring system failures involving the aircraft involved in the crash.
