FIP Demands Comprehensive Probe into Boeing 787 Electrical System Failures
The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has called for a comprehensive evaluation of Boeing 787 electrical systems in the investigation into the Air India AI171 crash, which killed 260 people last June. The pilots' body cited concerns from the Foundation of Aviation Safety (FAS) regarding chronic B787 electrical system failures.
The FIP's request follows evidence provided by FAS detailing systemic electrical and electronic failures relevant to the AI171 accident. The Air India Boeing 787-8 crash occurred on June 12, 2023, during the initial climb from Ahmedabad en route to London Gatwick.
The investigation team has made significant progress in the probe, with a final report expected upon completion of all activities and international review processes. However, FAS has questioned why no interim safety recommendations have been issued for the B787 fleet despite holding evidence of chronic system failure.
