FIP Demands In-Depth Review of Boeing 787 Electrical Systems in AI-171 Crash Probe

The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has called for a comprehensive review of the electrical systems on Boeing's 787 aircraft, following the crash of Air India flight AI-171 in June 2025. The pilots' body wants investigators to examine all aspects of the plane's technical and operational history, including records of recurring electrical anomalies.

The FIP has written to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) requesting a detailed examination of the aircraft's electrical power generation and distribution systems, as well as its Integrated Modular Avionics, flight-management and flight-control computers, batteries, and sensors. The group also wants investigators to review technical log entries, deferred defects, and troubleshooting records.

The request follows claims by the US-based Foundation for Aviation Safety (FAS) that documents relating to the crashed aircraft contained records of recurring electrical anomalies. FIP has asked AAIB to examine simulator-derived evidence concerning the timing of Ram Air Turbine operation and correlate it with flight-recorder data.
