FIP Demands Thorough Electrical System Review for Boeing 787
The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has called for a thorough examination of the electrical systems in Boeing's 787 aircraft, citing concerns about chronic system failures. The pilots' body is pushing for a comprehensive evaluation of electrical generation, power distribution, avionics integration, data-network performance, software functionality, and system reliability.
The FIP's demand comes after the US-based Foundation of Aviation Safety (FAS) questioned India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) about why no interim safety recommendations have been issued for the B787 fleet despite evidence of chronic system failures. The AAIB is currently investigating the Air India crash that killed 260 people in June last year.
The FIP has asked the AAIB to consider technical data submitted by FAS and issue appropriate safety recommendations for the B787 fleet. The pilots' body also wants a detailed examination of all electrical and electronically controlled systems, given their crucial role in the aircraft's design philosophy.
