FIP Demands Thorough Electrical System Review for Boeing 787
The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) is calling for a thorough review of the electrical systems in Boeing's 787 aircraft after the fatal Air India crash last June.
The plane, AI171, was en route to London Gatwick when it crashed soon after takeoff on June 12, 2025, killing 241 people onboard and 19 on the ground. A lone passenger survived, while all 12 crew members died in the accident.
FIP is urging the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of Boeing 787 electrical system evidence, consideration of technical data submitted by the Foundation for Aviation Safety (FAS), and issuance of appropriate safety recommendations. FAS has raised concerns about chronic system failures in Boeing 787 aircraft.
The investigation is ongoing, with AAIB reporting significant progress but no specific details on findings so far. The final report will be released upon completion of all investigative activities, requisite international review, and consultation processes.
