Firefighter's Home Improvement Trip Turns into Duckling Rescue
A firefighter's routine home improvement trip turned into an unexpected rescue mission when he stumbled upon five ducklings trapped in a storm drain near Pittsburgh.
Firefighter Matt Klein was headed to Home Depot to pick up supplies for his project when he noticed a frantic mother duck pacing back and forth near a storm grate. He soon discovered that the mother duck had five of her young ones stuck at the bottom of the drain, prompting him to call for backup from the North Fayette Township Volunteer Fire Department.
The fire department's post on Facebook revealed that Klein was able to rescue two of the ducklings before his colleagues arrived on the scene. The remaining three required a bit more effort, with officials eventually flushing out the last one using water from an engine.
Fortunately, all five ducklings were uninjured and were soon reunited with their relieved mother.
