Firefighters Rescue Ducklings and Deer in Back-to-Back North Fayette Rescues

North Fayette firefighters made headlines this past weekend with two remarkable rescues. The first involved five ducklings trapped in a storm drain on Home Drive, while the second saw a young deer stuck in a deck railing earlier that day. A North Fayette Township Volunteer Fire Department firefighter was on his way to Home Depot for a project when he spotted the mother duck pacing back and forth near a storm grate. Upon closer inspection, he discovered the quacking ducklings at the bottom of the drain and called for backup. The team successfully retrieved all five ducklings, with the last one requiring a bit more effort, it had to be flushed out 30 feet down the drain pipe using water from a fire engine. Once reunited, the mother duck waited patiently nearby, no doubt grateful for her brood's safe return. In a statement, the department highlighted the importance of these types of calls in keeping their rescue skills sharp and adapting to unique situations.

The North Fayette Township Volunteer Fire Department emphasized that such rescues not only help animals in distress but also serve as valuable training exercises. They often require firefighters to think creatively and utilize unconventional tools available on their rescue trucks, all while maintaining a low-stress environment.
