A routine trip to Home Depot turned into an unexpected rescue mission for North Fayette Township Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Matt Klein.

Klein was picking up supplies when he noticed a distressed duck pacing beside a storm drain, and upon closer inspection, discovered five trapped ducklings below.

He managed to rescue two of the ducklings before his department arrived on the scene.

The most challenging part of the rescue involved the final duckling, which was approximately 30 feet down a drain pipe leading to another catch basin. To reach it safely, crews used water from an engine to move it to a more accessible location.

All five ducklings were unharmed and reunited with their mother, thanks to Klein's quick thinking and the department's expertise in handling unusual rescue situations.
