Fix Your Bumpy Lawn with a DIY Kit from Home Depot

A bumpy lawn can cause more problems than just being unsightly. Low spots can lead to standing water, killing your grass and attracting mosquitoes. In extreme cases, it can even cause foundation issues. To level a yard without heavy equipment, one YouTube content creator used hand tools and materials found at Home Depot.

George from Princess Cut Lawn Care created a DIY lawn leveling kit using Miracle-Gro moisture control potting mix and Quikrete medium grade sand in a 1:1 ratio. He chose the potting soil over topsoil to avoid contaminants that can come with it. A landscape rake was used to spread and level the mix, followed by gently working it into the grass with a push broom.

The best time to do this is when your grass is actively growing. For warm-season grasses, spring is ideal, while for cool-season grasses, late summer or fall is better. Avoid adding leveling soil when the grass is dormant or stressed, as you can bury crowns and rhizomes, inhibiting new growth.

If there are bare patches, some additional grass seed can be sprinkled over them to hasten recovery time.
