Florida Community Protests Over Mysterious Disappearance of Home Depot Cats
Cats that had been living around a Home Depot in Lake City, Florida, have gone missing, prompting protests from local residents who are demanding answers about their disappearance.
The cats, which were fed and cared for by community members for years, were reportedly trapped, neutered, vaccinated, and ear-tipped before they vanished.
According to a spokesperson for Home Depot, the company worked with a third-party contractor to humanely capture and relocate the animals, following state, local, and federal regulations. However, protesters are questioning the protocol used by Home Depot and whether businesses should be held to the same standards as private citizens when it comes to handling stray animals.
Elizabeth Halloran, executive director of the Lake City Humane Society, visited Home Depot to speak with the store manager in person but was declined. She also reached out to the company's corporate office and has not received an answer.
