A young man living in Florida for the Disney College Program has become the fourth lightning-related fatality in the state this month. Matthew Jenkins, 20, was walking in Celebration, a suburb of Orlando, when he was struck by lightning on September 8.

Jenkins recently moved to Florida from Michigan to participate in the internship program that lets college students and recent graduates work at and live near the Walt Disney World Resort.

According to officials, bystanders began CPR at the scene, but Jenkins was pronounced dead at the hospital. This marks the fourth lightning-related death in less than a month in Florida.

Florida leads the nation in lightning fatalities, with about 3,500 lightning flashes reaching the ground each day. The state's dense population and time spent outdoors contribute to its high number of deaths.
