Florida Woman Accused of Stealing Purse, Using Stolen Cards at Local Stores
A woman in Jupiter, Florida has been accused of stealing a purse containing credit and debit cards.
The incident occurred on October 2, 2024, when Chantel Chavette Johnson, 42, allegedly approached a female victim with another woman, distracting her while the other stole the purse.
The stolen purse contained $40 in cash, a driver's license, health insurance cards, and credit and debit cards. Shortly after the theft, the victim began receiving notifications of card use at a Staples and a Publix in Jupiter, with the Staples receipts totaling nearly $600 using two of the victim's cards.
Surveillance video from the Staples showed Johnson using her bare hands to grab a $200 Home Depot gift card before putting it back. The gift card was later collected by police for fingerprint testing, which identified Johnson's fingerprints on it.
