Former State Trooper Sentenced for Home Depot Theft Scheme
A former state trooper from Pennsylvania has been sentenced to two years of probation for stealing merchandise from Home Depot stores. John Robert Tamewitz, 60, pleaded guilty to three charges each of retail theft and theft by deception, all misdemeanors.
Tamewitz was charged in December 2024 after an investigation found he removed stickers from online orders he picked up at stores in Hempfield and Wilkins. He then put the stickers on other merchandise and took the items without paying.
The incidents occurred in April, June, and August 2024. In each case, the online orders were refunded. As part of his plea agreement, Tamewitz was ordered to pay $2,053 in restitution to Home Depot.
