Former Trooper Sentenced for Stealing from Home Depot Stores
A former Pennsylvania state trooper has been sentenced for his role in stealing merchandise from two Home Depot stores. John Robert Tamewitz, 60, of Penn Township, pleaded guilty to three counts each of retail theft and theft by deception, all misdemeanors.
Tamewitz was charged with removing stickers from online orders he picked up at stores in Hempfield and Wilkins, then putting the stickers on other merchandise and taking it without paying. The incidents occurred in April, June, and August 2024, with each instance resulting in a refunded online order.
Tamewitz was ordered to pay $2,053 in restitution to Home Depot as part of his sentence. Six felony charges were dismissed under a plea agreement that canceled a nonjury trial scheduled for September.
