From Excel to Euphoria: Gucci Caliente's Rise as a K-Pop Songwriter

Norwegian songwriter and producer Gucci Caliente has made a name for herself in the K-pop scene, co-writing hits like 'Kitsch' and 'Rebel Heart' for groups Ive and KiiiKiii. However, her journey to success wasn't always straightforward.

When she first started writing K-pop songs, Caliente felt intimidated by the genre's complex musicality and structural changes. She even compared working on a K-pop track to using Microsoft Excel: 'It was like walking into an office job, the way you guys were looking at chords and stuff like that.'

But it wasn't until she co-wrote Ive's hit song 'Kitsch' that Caliente realized she didn't have to conform to traditional K-pop formulas. The song's carefree and playful vibe inspired her to approach K-pop writing with a sense of fun and experimentation.

Since then, Caliente has found success in the K-pop industry by embracing creativity over calculation. She credits her collaborators for pushing her beyond her comfort zone and helping her grow as a songwriter. Her goal is still to create 'the biggest song in the world,' but she's grateful that making music has become an integral part of everyday life.
