FTAI Aviation Lands 27 Boeing Jets in Strategic Deal
FTAI Aviation has made a significant move in the aviation industry by acquiring 27 Boeing 737-700 aircraft from WestJet. The deal, announced on September 28, 2026, marks one of FTAI's largest transactions to date and demonstrates its position as a differentiated buyer of mid-life narrowbody aircraft.
The acquisition balances long-term commercial airline leasing with direct expansion of the firm's specialized maintenance and engine replacement pipeline. The agreement divides the fleet into two distinct operational structures: 17 Boeing 737-700 aircraft were acquired in a sale-leaseback arrangement, allowing WestJet to continue operating the jetliners, while FTAI directly acquired 10 off-lease Boeing 737-700 airframes to feed its Aerospace Products segment.
The transaction highlights FTAI's ability to execute large-scale, multi-structured deals that benefit both airline operators and its core engine business. By combining on-lease cash flow with usable technical inventory, FTAI maximizes value from mature, narrowbody passenger aircraft.
