Fulshear Denies Revised Incentive Agreement with Home Depot
The City of Fulshear has denied a revised incentive agreement with Home Depot for a proposed store near FM 1093 and FM 1463. The $38 million investment from Home Depot would have generated at least 40 full-time jobs, according to agenda documents.
At the September 15 meeting, Fulshear City Council voted 4-3 to deny a Chapter 380 economic development agreement with Home Depot. Mayor Pro Tem Sarah Johnson and council members Richard Russell and Kimberly Bow cast the dissenting votes, supporting moving forward with the agreement.
The proposed store represents a significant investment for the city, with an expected revenue of at least $4.4 million over a 10-year period through a Chapter 380 agreement, according to Assistant City Manager Kelsee Lee. However, council member Camron Miller questioned why Home Depot needs such an agreement and suggested it should be focused on smaller corporations.
Home Depot has previously completed traffic impact statements for other municipalities, including Katy, but the city of Fulshear requested a more detailed analysis. Despite this, the council denied the agreement due to concerns about semi-trucks not clearing certain street corners near the proposed store.
