Gargoyles Live-Action Show Cancelled: Disney+ Adaptation Dead in the Water
The live-action adaptation of Disney's beloved 90s cartoon series Gargoyles is officially dead, according to its creator Greg Weisman. In an interview at Fan Expo Chicago, Weisman revealed that Atomic Monster, James Wan's production company, had the license to develop a live-action show for Disney+, but those plans are no longer in motion.
Weisman mentioned that Gary Dauberman, known for writing and producing horror films like Annabelle and It, was set to write, executive produce, and showrun the series. However, with the cancellation of the live-action project, fans will have to look elsewhere for Gargoyles content.
The good news is that Weisman himself has been keeping the spirit of the series alive through a new line of Gargoyles comics from Dynamite Entertainment. The 2026 series follows the previous run and offers fans a fresh take on the beloved characters.
