GE Aerospace Delivers Redesigned Engines for Boeing's Delayed 777X

GE Aerospace has shipped redesigned GE9X engines to Boeing for use in the 777X, which is scheduled to enter service in 2027. Despite a durability issue with the original engine's mid-seal, GE says it will not delay the program's timeline.

The company began shipping the new engines in the third quarter and expects FAA certification of the redesigned seal within the next few months. This should reduce the risk that regulatory issues could push back the entry into service date.

GE has an order book exceeding 950 engines for the GE9X, with Emirates alone having increased its total order to more than 540 units. A timely entry into service would let GE begin converting those orders into engine deliveries and establish a maintenance, spare-parts and service revenue stream.
