GE Aerospace Quells Concerns Over 777X Engine Reliability
GE Aerospace has addressed a durability issue in its GE9X engine, which is set to power Boeing's (BA) 777X aircraft. The company identified a problem with the mid-seal, a component linking the front and rear sections of the GE9X.
Testing showed that the original design did not meet durability expectations, prompting GE Aerospace to redesign the component. The revised seal has already started shipping to Boeing during the third quarter, with certification from the Federal Aviation Administration anticipated within the next few months.
The issue was first disclosed in February, but GE Aerospace said it had identified the root cause and completed a corrective design without changing the overall timeline for the GE9X program. The company remains confident in its ability to meet the planned entry into service of the 777X aircraft next year.
