Gemini Chatbot Accidentally Reveals Private Game Update Details

A game developer claims that Google's Gemini chatbot revealed information about their upcoming game update that had only been shared in a private Google Doc. The game, Operation Octo, is a tower defense game with bullet-hell elements, and the developer was planning to introduce a new character called Vantage Tripod. However, a fan chatting with Gemini mentioned both Vantage Tripod and another character, Skeleton Dragon.

The developer insists that they didn't share any information about Vantage Tripod publicly and believes that Google must have scraped their private document to train Gemini. They note that the game isn't big enough to generate enough online discussion for the AI to interpret in this way.

Google responded by stating that it doesn't use private Workspace content, including Drive and Docs, to train its foundation AI models. However, the developer points out that fans may have automatically connected their Google Workspace to Gemini, allowing the AI to access their documents.

The incident has raised concerns about data privacy and the potential for AI models to access sensitive information without users' knowledge or consent.
