Gemini Edges Out Muse in Agentic AI Rivalry
Meta and Google are both racing to develop agentic AI models, but Google's Gemini stack may have a structural advantage that could surpass Meta's Muse model. Despite launching its agentic AI model first, Meta's lead is being threatened by Google's aggressive expansion of Gemini across its various platforms.
Google's second-quarter results showed a 24.23% increase in revenue to $119.80 billion, with cloud services growing 82%. This growth was driven in part by the widespread adoption of Gemini Enterprise, which has been taken up by nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies.
Meta, on the other hand, saw a 27.96% increase in revenue, but its earnings per share (EPS) of $6.18 missed estimates. The company also took a hit from one-time charges, including $2.4 billion in legal costs and $1.2 billion in severance payments.
The key difference between the two companies' approaches to agentic AI is that Gemini is being built into the operating system level of Android devices, while Meta's Muse model lives in chat apps like WhatsApp. This integration gives Google a significant advantage in terms of user engagement and data collection.
