Gemini Takes Over: Google Assistant Officially Dead on Android and Android Auto
Google has finally retired Google Assistant on Android devices and Android Auto, replacing it with Gemini. This decision was announced in late summer, with a September 3 retirement date for users to switch to Gemini. According to Google, the transition process may take a few weeks to complete, and once availability is removed, users will no longer be able to use or switch back to Google Assistant on their devices.
Some users have complained about issues with Gemini, including its inability to make phone calls and send text messages. These problems are reminiscent of those experienced by Microsoft's Cortana digital assistant. In contrast to Google's claims that Gemini offers new-generation capabilities beyond those of Google Assistant, users report that it lacks these features.
As a result of the transition, Gemini is now the only assistant available on Android and Android Auto devices. When setting up a new phone, Gemini will be the default option. This change marks an end to the availability of Google Assistant on these platforms.
