Generac Generator Buyer Finds Dead Battery and Warranty Uncertainty
A recent Reddit thread highlights a frustrating experience for a buyer of a new Generac GP9500E backup generator. The issue? The generator arrived with a battery that wouldn't charge, leaving the buyer unsure whether the warranty would cover the defect.
The buyer, who purchased the generator through Home Depot, noted that the store's "No Returns/Exchanges" policy left them with limited options. Despite trying to charge the battery with a 12A manual charger and even a lower 2A setting, the battery showed no response. After an overnight charge, the battery only partially functioned, enough to engage the LPG/NG solenoid but not enough to start the engine.
Some Reddit users suggested potential causes for the battery issue, such as disconnected wires for shipping or a dry battery requiring acid. Others warned that the battery might not be covered under the warranty, a common problem with batteries that sit too long before installation. However, one user disagreed, stating that a dead-on-arrival (DOA) battery should be covered.
The thread also included discussions about the broader challenges of backup power and battery reliability, with references to other related stories involving backup batteries, financing for home storage, and battery safety concerns.
