Georgia Sees Surge in American Express Debit Card Issuance
The National Bank of Georgia published data showing that American Express debit card issuance in the country rose by 15.1% year-on-year from January through August 2026, totaling 12.9 million new cards.
This increase marks a continuation of a three-year trend of growth in American Express debit card issuance in Georgia, with a steady expansion in the use of bank cards and non-cash payments in the country.
The average adult in Georgia now holds more than three bank cards, according to a 2025 report by Galt & Taggart based on NBG and IMF data. The growth has been supported partly by digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.
