GitHub Copilot Gets Smarter for Slack and Microsoft Teams

GitHub Copilot, an AI-powered coding assistant, has been updated to provide more context and control for users in Slack and Microsoft Teams. The new version allows users to use more of the context already present in their conversation, including supported files, attachments, and message links. This enables teams to quickly see the context behind a decision.

The update also provides more control over how users work with Copilot. For example, users can switch models for the next message and keep that choice throughout the conversation. In Slack, users can set default owners and repositories, making it easier to manage work across different channels and conversations.

GitHub has also made several bug fixes and reliability improvements. These include better handling of longer-running tasks, clearer implementation-plan status, and more predictable reconnection behavior when a conversation goes idle. The public preview is available to organizations on GitHub Copilot Business and Enterprise plans.
