SCHMID Group N.V.'s (NASDAQ:SHMD) shares are trading higher Monday, buoyed by news that chipmakers like Nvidia, AMD, and Intel are considering using glass substrates in their processors.

Glass substrate technology has several advantages over conventional packaging materials, including thinner and smoother designs that can increase chip speeds, reduce power consumption, and allow for more high-bandwidth memory to be layered onto a single chip. This is particularly beneficial for AI workloads.

SCHMID Chief Sales Officer Roland Rettenmaier stated during the company's second-quarter 2026 earnings call that 'a lot of players in the Intel supply chain, in the Nvidia supply chain, AMD supply chain, you name them, are putting an eye on glass core substrates.'

SCHMID has been developing glass substrate solutions and positioning itself as a supplier to chipmakers pursuing this technology.
