GLP-1 Boom Ignites Amgen and Regeneron
Amgen and Regeneron are emerging as top contenders in the GLP-1 drug market, driven by diversified growth drivers and promising pipeline prospects. Amgen's stock price has surged 27% year-to-date, with second-quarter revenue increasing 10% to $10.1 billion and adjusted earnings per share of $6.29, up 4% from last year.
The company's GLP-1 pipeline drug MariTide is currently in Phase 3 studies for weight management, diabetes, and multiple other indications. If approved, MariTide could become a significant long-term growth driver, offering a convenience advantage over daily or weekly administered anti-obesity treatments.
Regeneron, on the other hand, has been rebounding from a slump in the first half of 2026, with revenue growing 17% year-over-year to $4.3 billion and adjusted earnings per share increasing 11%. The company's Olatorepatide, a dual GLP-1/GIP agonist, achieved an average weight loss of up to 19% over 48 weeks in Phase 3 studies.
Both Amgen and Regeneron possess strong pipelines and competitive advantages that make them attractive investments. While Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk currently dominate the market, these two companies are well-positioned to emerge as winners in the GLP-1 boom.
