Gluesenkamp Perez's Stock Filings Raise Questions Amid Congressional Trading Ban Efforts
Washington Democrat Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez co-sponsored a bill to ban members of Congress from trading individual stocks in January 2023. However, her own financial disclosure filings raised questions about whether she reported all of her assets and transactions correctly. According to a review by Breitbart News, Gluesenkamp Perez's initial candidate disclosure in June 2022 listed Robinhood Markets shares worth between $1,001 and $15,000, but omitted Amazon and Tesla stocks. In February 2023, after winning the seat, she amended her report to include these assets, each valued at between $1,001 and $15,000.
The addition of Amazon and Tesla came without any apparent explanation or paper trail, as they were missing from her subsequent annual disclosures in May 2024 and 2025. This has raised concerns about whether she sold the shares or kept them hidden. The House Ethics Committee guidance requires candidates to disclose investment assets worth more than $1,000 at the end of the reporting period.
Gluesenkamp Perez has been a vocal critic of congressional stock trading, introducing the TRUST in Congress Act with 34 colleagues in January 2023. She also co-sponsored the No Corruption in Government Act with Republican Representative Zach Nunn of Iowa in January 2025 to bar members and spouses from holding or trading individual stocks.
Gluesenkamp Perez's office released a statement noting that 78 members violated the STOCK Act's 45-day disclosure rule during the 117th Congress. She has stated, 'I don't do it' when referring to trading individual stocks.
