Goldman Sachs Dominates Mergers and Acquisitions with $10.4 Billion Deal Haul
Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS) has continued to strengthen its position in global dealmaking, according to recent data from GlobalData. In the first half of 2026, Goldman ranked as the top financial adviser on mergers and acquisitions in South and Central America by both deal value and transaction volume. The bank advised on three transactions valued at a combined $10.4 billion during this period, with two of those deals exceeding $1 billion in value.
This performance has contributed to a strong run for Goldman's shares, which have risen 17.7% year-to-date, outpacing the industry average of 11.7%. GS's investment banking fees saw a 52% year-over-year increase in the first half of 2026, driven by higher advisory, equity underwriting, and debt underwriting revenues.
Goldman is also investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI), with initiatives aimed at boosting fee income, improving productivity, and expanding long-term operating leverage. The bank's AI transformation program includes the development of an AI-focused investment platform, AlphaAI, and a partnership with Anthropic to accelerate AI adoption across hundreds of portfolio companies.
Goldman's streamlining efforts have also contributed to its growth, as it exits non-core consumer banking ventures and focuses on higher-margin businesses like Global Banking and Markets, and asset and wealth management divisions. The bank's fortress balance sheet allows for aggressive capital distribution through buybacks and a healthy dividend yield.
