Goldman Sachs Eyes Succession Plan for Waldron to Succeed Solomon
Goldman Sachs is reportedly laying the groundwork for a succession plan that would see President and Chief Operating Officer John Waldron succeed David Solomon as CEO in 2027 or 2028.
Waldron, who has spent nearly three decades at Goldman Sachs, has been instrumental in shaping the bank's modern strategic direction alongside Solomon.
He joined Goldman Sachs in 2000 and rose through the ranks to become COO in 2018. As COO, Waldron led the execution of key priorities and operational efficiencies, including the development of 'OneGS 3.0', a long-term AI-driven transformation plan introduced in late 2025.
The plan aims to bolster the bank's resilience, productivity, and profitability through automation, while capping headcount growth.
