Goldman Sachs Joins Talks on Nvidia's $500B AI Financing Initiative
Goldman Sachs has joined talks on Nvidia's massive $500 billion AI financing initiative. The investment bank is in discussions with potential investors, including US insurance companies, money managers, and banks, to secure a role in the deal.
Nvidia announced its plans to work with six leading financial firms, including Goldman Sachs, to build compute platforms that will raise over $500 billion of third-party capital for AI infrastructure. The bank's involvement reflects years of close ties with Nvidia, including its role as exclusive adviser on Nvidia's $6.9 billion Mellanox acquisition in 2019 and lead underwriter on the chipmaker's $25 billion bond sale in June.
Nvidia has taken a unique approach to this funding initiative by allocating more risk to the investor consortium rather than providing guarantees like vendors did in previous AI infrastructure investments. According to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, the company can backstop up to $125 billion in deals, which is 25% of what the deal could be.
