Goldman Sachs Leads $500 Billion Nvidia Financing Push
Goldman Sachs is in advanced talks with potential investors to participate in Nvidia's $500 billion AI financing initiative. The move marks the culmination of years of ties between Goldman and Nvidia, with the bank advising Nvidia on several transactions and serving as an exclusive financial adviser on Nvidia's $6.9 billion acquisition of Mellanox Technologies in 2019.
The structure of the deal is unusual, with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stating that the company has the option to backstop up to $125 billion, or 25% of the potential deals. This approach differs from earlier AI infrastructure deals that relied heavily on vendor guarantees.
Goldman Sachs will provide junior capital and private credit financing through its asset management arm, while its investment bank can help place the debt into private credit funds and eventually public debt markets.
