John Waldron, Goldman Sachs' current president and COO, may be on track to become the company's next CEO. In a surprising twist, it was revealed that Waldron initially applied to Goldman Sachs after college but was rejected due to failing a financial modeling test.

Waldron went on to work at Bear Stearns, where he formed a close friendship with David Solomon, who is now the current CEO of Goldman Sachs. Waldron eventually joined Goldman Sachs in 2000 and has since risen through the ranks, becoming president and COO in 2018.

Notably, Waldron doesn't have a formal education in finance; he holds a BA in English from Middlebury College. Despite this unconventional background, Waldron has been instrumental in implementing AI initiatives within Goldman Sachs, including 'OneGS 3.0,' which aims to achieve greater speed and agility in operations.
